Firefighters had to extricate a teenage girl who became pinned after a vehicle crashed into a Lansing restaurant, police and fire department officials said.

The crash was reported around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, 237 N. Main St.

The girl was inside the building as she became pinned by the vehicle that crashed through an exterior wall, according to Rick Huhn, chief of Leavenworth County Fire District No. 1.

The girl was transported to the hospital.

“I think it was more for observation than anything else,” said Capt. Ben Ontiveros of the Lansing Police Department.

Huhn said the girl was fortunate.

“It could have been ugly,” he said of the crash.

Ontiveros blamed the crash on operator error.
