A Leavenworth man has pleaded no contest to mistreating a dependent adult, according to the county attorney.

A Leavenworth man has pleaded no contest to mistreating a dependent adult, according to the county attorney.

Michael Poer, 43, was found guilty after entering the no contest plea Wednesday in Leavenworth County District Court.

Poer was charged after police officers responded to a first aid call Dec. 25 at a residence on Spruce Street.

A woman who was incapable of walking reportedly was being left alone for hours and not being fed. Doctors reported the woman had an infected tailbone consistent with bed sores, according to County Attorney Todd Thompson.

Sentencing is the case is scheduled for May 2.

"Thank goodness for the people that reported this crime," Thompson said in a news release. "We should always be working to take care of each other, not advantage of others."
