An annual fundraiser will be held this week to help children be safe.

The 12th annual Leavenworth County Children Abuse Prevention Council will host a fundraising breakfast from 6:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at TenPenny Restaurant and Bar, 529 Cherokee St.

“Our central goal is to keep children safe,” said Jim Sherley, chairman of the council.

Funds raised at the event are earmarked for child abuse training throughout the year.

The breakfast is the only fundraiser of the year for the Leavenworth County Children Abuse Prevention Council.

City and county officials, including the chief of police and sheriff, will work as servers during the event.

Tickets are $10 per person in advance or $15 at the door on the morning of the event.

Sherley said attendance at the event is typically “brisk.”

“We stay pretty busy for those three hours,” said Sherley, undersheriff of the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office.

Sherley praised the efforts of TenPenny general manager Cindy Schulenberg for hosting the event.

“They have been fantastic partners,” Sherley said.

Schulenberg said the restaurant will provide the food at no cost.

“It’s a good cause for the kids and we just like to help the community and give back,” she said.

Schulenberg said the menu will consist of fruit, pastries, scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, bacon and biscuits and gravy.
