No injuries were reported following a fire at a Leavenworth elementary school, according to school and fire department officials.

The fire was reported at 2:34 p.m. Friday at Earl Lawson Elementary School, 820 N. Fifth St. The fire was contained to a restroom, said Mark DeMaranville, division chief of prevention for the Leavenworth Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Jake Potter, director of public relations for Leavenworth public schools, said the fire triggered the alarm system at Lawson. Students and staff members safely exited the building.

The Leavenworth Fire Department responded and isolated the location of the fire.

Potter said students started going back inside the building within about 30 minutes. It was close to the end of the school day, and students gathered in the school's gymnasium.

“We ended up dismissing from the gym,” Potter said.

Potter said the fire caused less than $1,000 worth of damage. The school was back to normal on Monday.
