This has been a bad year for potholes in streets, the director of the Leavenworth Public Works Department said.

This has been a bad year for potholes in streets, the director of the Leavenworth Public Works Department said.

Mike McDonald said periods of freezing and thawing during the winter contributed to the problem.

"It was just a perfect storm for that," he said.

McDonald said city employees already are asked to report potholes they encounter. But he said members of the public also can report potholes they find in Leavenworth streets.

"If someone calls, we will look at it," McDonald said. "We will take it seriously."

He said people can report potholes by calling the Leavenworth Municipal Service Center at 913-682-0650.

McDonald said that office is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. But people who call after hours, can leave messages.

People also can report potholes online by visiting the city's website, www.lvks.org.

If some cases, Public Works Department employees may already be aware of potholes that are reported, McDonald said.
