The county attorney said people in the area may have received calls indicating that their Social Security numbers have been compromised.

But County Attorney Todd Thompson warns that these calls are part of a scam aimed at stealing people's identities.

Thompson encourages people to not give out any information to such callers and be suspicious even if the callers use official-sounding names.

These type of scams can be reported to the Social Security Administration’s fraud hotline at 1-800-269-0271.
