The FBI is investigating a robbery at a Basehor bank, according to a news release.

The incident was reported at 10:07 a.m. Saturday at Citizens Savings and Loan, 15500 State Ave.

A robber reportedly handed a bank teller a note but did not display a weapon.

The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. He left behind a package that he claimed was an explosive device.

Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, said the local bomb squad responded to the scene.

According to FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton, the package turned out to be a “non-threat item”

The suspect is described as a heavyset white man with a beard. He is about 6 feet tall. He wore a camouflage jacket and baseball cap. He also had a red bandana around his neck.

The suspect fled in what was described as a newer white two-door sedan with a spoiler on the back and tinted windows, according to the news release from the FBI.

No injuries were reported.
