Summer is almost here, and that means one thing in the Leavenworth and Lansing area.

It’s time for summer music festivals.

It all gets started next weekend in Lansing and Leavenworth.

Lansing City Limits 2018 will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse, 871 Eisenhower Road.

Harpist Wujeong Duncan will perform, followed by one-woman band Erica McKenzie, who plays a wide variety of music.

The free show is sponsored by Lansing Lumber and Lansing Med.

“Lansing City Limits highlights regional and local artists,” said Tim Dossey, event and marketing coordinator for the city of Lansing. “And it gives us a chance to support our local businesses.”

Dossey said there will be another Lansing City Limits performance in September.

Leavenworth Main Street will host the first of three performances in the Free Summer Concert Series on June 9 at Haymarket Square.

RetroActive Lite! will perform from 7-10 p.m. at the downtown outdoor venue.

The band will perform music from the 1980s.

“It’s been a popular music series,” said Wendy Scheidt, executive director of Leavenworth Main Street. “The bands are always good, the food is good and it’s just an enjoyable evening.”

People attending the event are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on as picnic table seating is limited at Haymarket Square.

Pullman Place Family Restaurant will be the featured food vendor at the concert.

Beer, water and soda will be available to purchase. Leavenworth Main Street requests that attendees do not bring coolers.

The next concert will feature the group Dating Sarah on July 14 at Haymarket Square. They will play 1970s rock music.

The third concert of the summer will be Aug. 11 when Abbey Road, a Beatles tribute band, performs in downtown Leavenworth.
