Prince Charming has been kidnapped and six princesses will band together (with the help of the Fairy Godmother) to rescue him with the hopes of winning his hand in marriage.

That’s the plot of “Chasing Charming,” a youth show that will be performed this weekend at the Performing Arts Center in downtown Leavenworth.

The comedy will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $5 each and sold only at the door. Concessions will be available for purchase during each performance.

Approximately 30 children ranging from 8-18 years old have roles in the play. The play is directed by Sara Barber.

“The cast has been great,” said River City Community Players President Marianne Tennant. “And the parents have worked so hard on the sets and costumes. They have been phenomenal.”

She said several of the older children are involved in the technical side of the show, gaining experience with lights, sound and backstage work.

The show is the first of three youth performances slated at the community theater this year.

“Willie Wonka Jr.” is slated for Sept. 14-16 and the annual children’s Christmas show is set for Dec. 7-9.

The River City Community Players return to the stage July 27-28, Aug. 3-4 and Aug. 10-12 with the musical “Oklahoma.” Auditions will be June 4-5.
