The organizer of the Free Summer Concert Series said Saturday night’s kickoff performance was a success.
“It was a fantastic band and a great crowd,” said Wendy Scheidt, executive director of Leavenworth Main Street. “It was a little hot but there was a nice breeze.”
The concert featured RetroActive Lite!, a Kansas City-based cover band that plays music from the 1980s.
The band played before a gathering of approximately 200 spectators at Haymarket Square in downtown Leavenworth.
The concert was the first of three performances in the Free Summer Concert Series this summer. The concerts are held on the second Saturdays of the month during June, July and August.
The next concert will feature the group Dating Sarah on July 14 at Haymarket Square. They play music from the 1970s.
The final concert in the series this summer will be Aug. 11 with a performance by Abbey Road, a Beatles tribute band.
“We try hard to bring in great bands to the community,” Scheidt said. “We try to provide a great overall experience. That’s what coming to downtown Leavenworth is all about.”
