Local residents may notice that the Missouri River is rising.

By 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Missouri River had reached a depth of 11.46 feet at Leavenworth. And a forecast predicted the river will rise to 15.3 feet Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast predicts the depth of the river will then decrease a little before rising again to 15.6 feet June 28.

The river reaches what is called its action stage at 17 feet. But minor flooding does not occur until the river reaches 20 feet.

A flood warning has been issued for the Missouri River north of Leavenworth at St. Joseph, Missouri. But as of Wednesday afternoon, no warnings had been issued for Leavenworth.
