The first day of a trial for a woman accused of murdering her estranged husband in Leavenworth was devoted to jury selection.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, jury selection was still ongoing in the trial of Barbara M. Frantz.

Frantz, 52, Kansas City, Kansas, is charged in Leavenworth County District Court with first-degree murder.

She is accused of shooting her estranged husband, Gary, Jan. 27, 2017, in a downtown Leavenworth parking lot.

The victim reportedly identified his wife as the shooter before he died.

Defense attorneys plan to argue that the victim was killed by his son.

District Judge Michael Gibbens ruled last week that defense attorneys can present evidence of a potential motive on the part of the son.

The trial could last two weeks.

Frantz remains in custody at the Leavenworth County Jail during the trial.
