The budget has not yet been prepared, but members of the Lansing Board of Education already have scheduled meetings to discuss the school district’s 2018-2019 budget.

Lansing Superintendent Darrel Stufflebeam said he is still awaiting software from the Kansas State Department of Education that he will use to prepare the budget.

“The software is not out yet,” he said.

When they met Monday, Lansing school board members scheduled a budget work session. The special meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 24 at the district office.

Board members also approved a public hearing on the budget. That hearing will take place during an Aug. 13 regular meeting of the school board. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

After the conclusion of the public hearing, board members will be able to vote to approve the budget, Stufflebeam said.

District officials will publish an official notice of the public hearing with information about the proposed budget in the newspaper at least 10 days before the hearing.

Board meetings usually take place at the district office at 200 E. Mary St. But Stufflebeam said the Aug. 13 meeting will take place at the Lansing Intermediate School.

District officials have converted a former middle school building at 509 Ida St. into the new intermediate school. The intermediate school will house classes for grades four and five.

Stufflebeam said the Aug. 13 meeting will take place at the intermediate school because board members will be touring the facility during the meeting.

Stufflebeam said the intermediate school is almost ready for the start of the school year.

He said a few finishing touches remain including repairs to concrete near the front entrance. He said a playground will be installed at the school next week.
