A man was arrested when he was caught allegedly burglarizing a convenience store in downtown Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.

A man was arrested when he was caught allegedly burglarizing a convenience store in downtown Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.

Police officers responded to an alarm at 2:42 a.m. Tuesday at Hometown store, 111 N. Broadway.

“Officers responded and discovered a broken window and a vehicle parked in the alley behind the business,” said Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

Nicodemus said the suspect, a 20-year-old rural Leavenworth man, reportedly was seen exiting the business through a window.

Police took the man into custody. Officers recovered $404 in cash, $350 worth of lottery tickets and a few packages of cigarettes that reportedly were taken during the burglary.

The suspect was arrested for allegations of burglary, theft and criminal damage to property.
