A private detention facility in Leavenworth was on lockdown Wednesday following an inmate attack on staff members, according to a spokeswoman for the company that operates the facility.

A private detention facility in Leavenworth was on lockdown Wednesday following an inmate attack on staff members, according to a spokeswoman for the company that operates the facility.

The incident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the CoreCivic Leavenworth Detention Center, 100 Highway Terrace.

Three staff members were assaulted, resulting in injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to Amanda Gilchrist, director of public affairs for CoreCivic.

The staff members were treated at the hospital and have been released.

The facility remained on lockdown at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday.

An investigation is underway, according to Gilchrist.

The Leavenworth Detention Center houses inmates for the U.S. Marshals Service.
