A Leavenworth man has pleaded no contest to using social media to solicit a minor, according to a prosecution official.

Raymond Soden, 67, pleaded no contest Tuesday in Leavenworth County District Court to electronic solicitation.

Between January and March, Soden reportedly communicated with a 13-year-old girl using Facebook Messenger. Soden and the girl reportedly sent messages to each other regarding the defendant paying the girl for nude photographs as well as sex acts, according to a news release from County Attorney Todd Thompson.

When interviewed by police, Soden reportedly acknowledged knowing that the girl was 13.

“Parents and guardians have every right, and absolutely should have, access to their children’s Facebook and other social media accounts,” Thompson said in the release. “I would implore parents and guardians to have frank and earnest conversations about talking to strangers over social media and the dangers that could happen.”

Sentencing for Soden is scheduled for Sept. 28.
