An Alaska man was killed in a traffic accident involving a Tonganoxie police officer, according to information from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

An Alaska man was killed in a traffic accident involving a Tonganoxie police officer, according to information from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 5:53 p.m. Friday on U.S. 24-40 west of North Village Terrace in Tonganoxie.

Officer Nicholas Ontiveros, 33, was driving west in a 2015 Ford Explorer. He activated the police vehicle’s emergency lights in an attempt to stop a car that was traveling east on the highway.

Ontiveros made a U-turn in front of a westbound 2018 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the police vehicle, according to a report from the KHP.

Tommy Roe, 62, Anchorage, Alaska, was thrown from the motorcycle. Roe was taken to Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas, but he died from his injuries, according to the KHP report.

Roe had not been wearing a helmet.
