A suspicious package found outside of Leavenworth High School prompted staff to be dismissed from the building for an early lunch Friday morning, according to a district spokesman.

It later was determined the suspicious package, which was an unattended book bag, was not a threat, according to Jake Potter, director of public relations for the school system.

Students did not have classes Friday, but staff members were at the school for professional development activities.

The suspicious package was reported around 11 a.m. It was found in a circle drive located outside of the high school’s auditorium.

School security personnel initially assessed the report of the suspicious package and contacted the Leavenworth Police Department.
