As Leavenworth police officers were recently taking a man into custody, they discovered he had suffered a stab wound.

“We’re not sure where it happened, who did it or if it even happened in Leavenworth,” Deputy Police Chief Dan Nicodemus said of the stabbing.

The stabbing victim was intoxicated and did not provide police with information about what had happened. He was taken to the hospital, Nicodemus said.

Police discovered the man had been stabbed around 3 p.m. Friday.

Police were contacted after the man reportedly drank a drink belonging to someone else at restaurant in northwest Leavenworth and then left the establishment.

Police found the man walking. Nicodemus said officers determined a warrant from the city of Wichita had been issued for the man’s arrest.

Officers discovered the man had a stab wound in the side of his abdomen that appeared to be recent. Police did not arrest the man, who was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas. But Leavenworth officers notified authorities in Wichita and law enforcement officers at the hospital.
