Children take the stage this weekend as the River City Community Players present “Willy Wonka Jr.” at the Performing Arts Theater, 500 Delaware St.
The shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14-15 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 16.
Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 per person.
Kevin Albee, director of the musical, said those attending the show “are going to have a ball.”
The cast includes 30 children between the ages of 8 and 18. There are eight crew members. Albee said all members of the cast and crew are from the city of Leavenworth or Fort Leavenworth.
He said the show includes approximately 15 scene changes during songs.
“That choreography is just as important as the cast,” Albee said.
The musical consists of three leads, Albee said, including Alyssa Hill as Willy Wonka, Wyatt Brown as Charlie Bucket and Joey Discavage as Grandpa Joe.
“Everyone is doing incredible,” Albee said. “There is a strong chemistry with the whole cast.”
The show is the second of three youth shows this year. The youth will also be featured in the annual Children’s Christmas Show in December.
The River City Community Players have performed three shows this year. The next one will be “Lend me a Tenor” Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 2-4 at the downtown theater.
The community theater will also host “Live at the Hollywood Theater,” a jazz show Nov. 10 that is a fundraiser for the youth shows.
Eddie Moore and the Outer Circle and Chris Hazleton’s Boogaloo will perform.
