In this Q5, Lori Redford, director of Twin Oaks Independent Living, talks about the upcoming craft and vendor sale.

Lori, what types of crafts have the residents and staff at Twin Oaks Independent Living been working on for the upcoming craft and vendor sale?
We will have a variety of homemade crafts for the upcoming holidays and a few home décor items. Wreaths, plaques, flower arrangements and painted wooden blocks with sayings that can be used for two holidays.
Venders will include Avon, Paparazzi Jewelry, Color Street Nails, Scentsy, woodworking crafts, handmade jewelry and a local author.

Can you tell us about the process? How difficult and labor intensive was it to get all of these craft items finished and ready to sell?
We enjoy crafts two to three times a week with anywhere from two to 15 residents attending. We start with a planning meeting in the spring and work on items off and on all summer. We especially love to paint vases, picture frames and wood. Our activity director, Lorie Widdice, adds the finishing touches.

What do the residents enjoy the most about crafting and are they always eager to start new projects?
It gives them a sense of accomplishment and keeps them active. Crafts are a fun time and a way to get to know each other better. There is always a lot of giggling coming from the room. They love to try new things and are always asking, “What are we doing in crafts today?”

When and where will the craft fair be this year?
The Twin Oaks Independent Living Craft Fair will be held at 457 W. Eisenhower Oct. 11-12  from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 13 from  8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For what is the money collected at the craft fair used? Why is this activity so beneficial for Twin Oaks residents?
The money raised goes to the activity fund.
We use it to buy more supplies, music performances and small trips.
No matter what the activity, it helps improve our state of mind and well being.
