Leavenworth police say only one person was a hostage during a standoff that lasted several hours Tuesday.

Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department, initially said after the incident that authorities were trying to determine if a second person also had been a hostage in a home in the 1100 block of Cheyenne Street.

But Nicodemus said police now believe only the suspect and hostage were in the residence at the time of the standoff.

Nicodemus said police had contact with a third person during the incident. But officers had contact with her outside the residence.

The 37-year-old man who has been identified as the suspect in the case eventually surrendered to police Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

The suspect reportedly had been armed with a handgun. He allegedly made threats against police officers and the hostage.
