Paul Davis, the Democratic candidate in the Kansas 2nd Congressional District race, said he is “very optimistic” of claiming the seat in Washington, D.C.

Davis is running against Republican Steven Watkins for the 2nd Congressional District seat.

They are vying to win the seat soon to be vacated by Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, who will retire at the end of her term.

Davis met with constituents Wednesday morning at Meriwether’s Coffee Shop and Cafe in downtown Leavenworth.

It was the second stop on a day-long campaign trip.

The campaign tour also included stops in Oskaloosa, Troy, Seneca, Frankfort, Holton and Hiawatha.

Davis said he is on his final campaign tour of the 25 counties in the 2nd Congressional District in the run-up to Election Day. The general election is Tuesday.

“I’ve spent a lot of time listening,” Davis said. “People are hungry to send someone to Congress that is a problem solver.”

He said there needs to be more “voices of stability” in Congress.

He said voters have expressed “frustration with what’s going on in Washington.”

Davis was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 2003-15.
