A Bonner Springs area teen was said to be OK after her car went airborne and struck a utility pole Sunday in southeast Leavenworth County, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported at 7:22 a.m. Sunday two miles east of 158th Street on Kansas Avenue.
A 15-year-old girl reportedly was on her way to work in Shawnee. She was driving a 1998 Toyota Rav4 when she swerved to miss a raccoon in the roadway.
The sport utility vehicle went into a ditch and struck a culvert, causing it to go airborne. The vehicle struck the utility pole four feet from the ground. The vehicle then spun around, coming to rest on its wheels, according to the report.
The girl had been wearing a seat belt and airbags deployed.
The vehicle was said to be a total loss.
