The county’s bomb squad was called out Sunday night to investigate a suspicious suitcase that had been left at a Leavenworth intersection, a police spokesman said.

It was determined the suitcase contained only clothing and personal items.

“I’m not sure why it was left sitting at the intersection, but it was,” said Maj. Robert Smith, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

The suspicious suitcase was reported at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday in the area of 10th and Pennsylvania avenues.

Members of the Leavenworth Fire Department stood by as the bomb squad investigated the suitcase, according to fire Capt. Shawn Kell.
