Members of the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office have been investigating a series of recent burglaries.
“We’ve had a rash of them,” said Undersheriff Ron Cranor.
Cranor didn’t know the exact number of burglaries that have been reported in recent weeks. He said many of them have occurred in the central and southern portions of the county. He said the burglars appear to have chosen residences at random.
“We don’t see a pattern,” he said.
Cranor said he does not know if the burglaries are related or being carried out by people working independently of each other.
Tools, jewelry and firearms are among the items that have been targeted by burglars.
The undersheriff believes many burglaries are driven by people trying to raise money to support drug addictions.
Cranor said members of the Sheriff’s Office do what they can in terms of patrolling the county to prevent such burglaries.
He said it likely only takes a burglar a matter of minutes to grab what he wants from a residence.
