Harper pleads not guilty to stealing Booster funds

A woman has pleaded not guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from the Leavenworth High School Football Booster Club.

The not guilty plea was entered following a preliminary hearing for Cheri L. Harper Thursday in Leavenworth County District Court.

A jury trial was scheduled for Dec. 10.

Harper, 44, is accused of stealing money from the parent-run Booster Club in 2007 while serving as the organization’s treasurer. She faces one count of felony theft.

Keith Melick testified during Thursday’s preliminary hearing that he was serving as president of the Booster Club at the same time Harper served as treasurer.

He testified Harper was asked to turn over financial records for the club after it was learned a check from the organization didn’t clear.
