Authorities had to break a car window after an alleged drunken driver passed out in his vehicle Thursday in downtown Leavenworth, a police spokesman said.
The car apparently wasn’t moving when the man passed out, but the engine was running, according to Maj. Robert Smith, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
Police had trouble awakening the 29-year-old man, who reportedly had a beer bottle between his legs. And police apparently couldn’t get inside the vehicle, so firefighters were called to the scene to break the window, Smith said.
The incident occurred at about 6 p.m. Thursday. The car was stopped at Seventh and Delaware streets.
The man was taken to the hospital to be checked out, Smith said.
