With the help of some new faces, “Bell, Book and Candle,” a bewitching new play by the River City Community Players, is scheduled to open Friday, Nov. 13.
The play, originally a Broadway production by John Van Druten and the basis for the TV show “Bewitched,” tells the story of Gillian Holroyd, a free-spirited witch in New York City who arrives at a crossroads in her life.
She meets Shep Henderson, a publisher in the city who is about to marry her former college rival, Merle Kittridge. She casts a love spell on Henderson as revenge, only to find herself falling for him.
In the end, Holroyd is forced to make a choice between love or her powers.
David Powell, who plays Gillian’s warlock brother Nicky in the production as well as the technical director, said there are some special effects peppered throughout the romantic comedy.
Director Kaci Forsythe said the production has definitely come together since rehearsals started in September.
