Even though it’s run by volunteers, it still takes quite a bit of money to operate a museum such as the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, according to Del Sanders.
And he said museum officials try to be as reasonable as they can with prices for things such as carousel rides.
Sanders is president of the Leavenworth Historical Museum Association. To raise money for the association, officials are preparing for the 10th annual A Taste of Leavenworth.
The event will be held Saturday at the former Sears store location at the Leavenworth Plaza mall, 3400 S. Fourth St. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
Sanders said the event will feature samples from restaurants in the Leavenworth area.
“There will be lots of food,” he said.
He said two wineries also will be represented at the event. And there will be a champagne fountain.
“We have music and entertainment,” he said.
There also will be silent and live auctions. Sanders said about 400 items have been donated to the association for the auctions including a Honda Shadow motorcycle and a 1952 fire hydrant painted in the colors of the University of Kansas.
“There’s something there for everybody” he said.
Sanders said he’s grateful to merchants from Leavenworth as well as some from outside of the city who have donated items for the event.
Silent auction tables will close at various times until 8 p.m. when the live auction will begin.
Sanders said the event raised more than $25,000 last year.
He said money raised from A Taste of Leavenworth will support the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, National Fred Harvey Museum, First City Museum and Leavenworth Trolley Club.
