Investigation continues into Platte City arsons, death

Police Department officials in Platte City, Mo., announced Friday that they are investigating a series of vehicles that were apparently set fire early that morning and the death of an individual found in one of the vehicles.

Platte City Police Chief Carl Mitchell wrote in a statement that officers were dispatched to vehicle fires reported at 1881 Wilkerson Drive, 2128 Catie Lane and 2113 Wilkerson Drive. The fires were all reported between 5:25 a.m. and 7:04 a.m.
The body of an unidentified male was found in a truck that was reportedly not owned by that person in the fire reported at 2113 Wilkerson.

Following the incidents, the department called in the Platte County Sheriff’s Department; Kansas City bomb and arson squad; Kansas City crime scene unit; the bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; the state of Missouri’s fire marshal; the Jackson County Medical Examiner; and the Missouri Highway Patrol to help investigate.
