Three members of a Fort Leavenworth military police unit were arrested last week after they allegedly shot up several vehicles in Atchison, a police spokesman said.
Jeffrey N. Silva, 25, Charles W. Nunez, 25, and Dwaine M. McClough, 23, each has been charged with criminal use of a weapon and felony criminal damage to property, according to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson.
The three soldiers accused of the crimes are members of the 256th Military Police Company, according to Fort Leavenworth spokeswoman Rebecca Steed.
The 256th is part of the 40th Military Police Internment and Resettlement Battalion which provides personnel for the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth.
Wilson said police first received a number of reports of shots being fired at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday on South Fifth Street in Atchison. He said callers reported gunfire in several blocks.
