About 100 firefighters die each year in the United States, and about 70,000 are seriously injured. But Billy Goldfeder said most of these incidents are predictable and can be avoided.

“It’s very easy with calls day in and day out to get complacent,” Goldfeder said as he prepared for a presentation in Leavenworth

Goldfeder, who is the deputy chief of a suburban Cincinnati fire department and contributor to various industry publications, spoke to an audience of mostly firefighters Thursday at the Landing 4 Theaters.

“This is probably the best safety presentation in the country,” said Mike Lingenfelser, assistant chief of the Leavenworth Fire Department.
