According to Kansas statutes, the Leavenworth County Commission are required to meet at least twice a week.
For more than 20 years, Commissioner Clyde Graeber said the commission has most regularly met on Monday and Thursday mornings for those meetings. But on Thursday the commission again discussed a schedule to host quarterly 6 p.m. evening meetings in order to accommodate those who are unable to make the morning schedule.
The commissioners have discussed a proposed schedule several times over the past few weeks, with ideas ranging from monthly to quarterly meetings.
When they spoke about the matter and approved an option presented by staff on Feb. 25, the commissioners decided to look into hosting meetings every quarter — one meeting in the northern part of the county and another in the southern portion.
The first meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. April 15 in the Leavenworth County Courthouse.
At those meetings, the commission would conduct no official business and take no official minutes, but would hear public comment. County Counselor David Van Parys has said that such a meeting would meet statutory requirements.
