More details have been released about Wednesday’s fatality accident involving a garbage truck in southwest Leavenworth.
Timothy E. Schonhoff, 24, Lawrence, was pronounced dead at the scene after the truck ran over him, according to Undersheriff Ron Cranor.
The accident was reported at 10 a.m. Wednesday at 26141 Ninth St.
Schonhoff had been riding as a passenger in the cab of the truck, not on the back as initially reported. The truck pulled into the drive of a residence. Schonhoff hopped out of the cab and started walking to the back of the vehicle along the passenger side, according to Cranor.
The driver was backing the truck to get closer to trash barrels when he noticed Schonhoff lying on the ground.
It’s believed the truck had run over Schonhoff after he slipped and fell near the wheels, according to Cranor.
The truck was owned by Honey Creek Disposal of Tonganoxie.
