The executive director of the Carnegie Arts Center has retired after seven years as the leader of the Leavenworth-based arts organization.

Carolyn Singleton’s last official day was Oct. 15, according to Michael Winer, who was named the Carnegie’s acting executive director at a meeting of the
organization’s board of directors last Thursday.

Dustin Zeck, president of the Carnegie’s board of directors, said Singleton had mentioned the possibility of retirement several times before she announced her decision to the board.

“She wants to spend more time with her family,” he said.

Still, he said after seven years, Singleton has left some big shoes to fill.

“Carolyn gave her heart to that place,” he said. “She was great to work with and I wish her the best.”

For now, Zeck said Winer will serve as the center’s director.

In the meantime, Winer said Carnegie activities are continuing — the music faculty will host a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday at the center, 601 S. Fifth Street in Leavenworth.

“We’re not leaving,” he said. “We’re still here.”
