The city of Leavenworth does not fund the Leavenworth County Port Authority, but during a meeting Tuesday they did have to approve new appointments to the board of the organization.
Before that, they discussed who is appointed to the board and how they are chosen.
According to City Manager Scott Miller, the reappointments to the five-member board were for Charlie Hill, Terry Andrews and Bill New. All three have served on the board before. Miller said the reappointments had already been reviewed and confirmed by the Leavenworth County Commission.
Formed in 1969 by a joint agreement between the city and the county, the Port Authority is funded by the Leavenworth County Commission and has the power to purchase, construct, sell and lease docks, wharves, warehouses and other ports of transportation.
Several of the reappointments had served the board for a number of years, with New having been on the board since 1974.
