Easton public schools officials are moving forward with a committee to study a possible bond issue. And they’re asking for volunteers.

School district patrons are being asked to volunteer to serve on the ad hoc committee to look at the possible construction of new classrooms for the fourth and fifth grades.

By building the new classrooms at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School or Pleasant Ridge Middle School, the district could move its fourth and fifth grade classes out of the Salt Creek Valley Elementary School building.

Superintendent Chuck Coblentz said he did not put a deadline for applying for the committee on a notice that was placed on the district’s website. But he would like to have a list of people to present to school board members at their next meeting, which is scheduled for Aug. 8.

Board members William Bohne and David Jones already have volunteered to serve on the committee. Coblentz said school board members have identified staff members from Pleasant Ridge Elementary School and Salt Creek Valley Elementary School to serve on the committee.

Administrators such as the superintendent and principals can be called in to assist the committee as needed.

Coblentz said board members hope to keep the size of the committee to about 12 people.

“That could change,” he said.

He said the number will depend on how many people volunteer.

With enrollment coming up, Coblentz hopes people will see the call for volunteers as they visit the district website for enrollment information.

School officials hope the committee will be able to make recommendations to the Easton Board of Education in November.
