After a hearing three weeks ago when it looked like the Leavenworth County Conservation District would receive no funding, it appears the district will now receive $25,000 for its 2010 budget.
The decision by the Leavenworth County Commission comes about a week after a session with visits from Kansas state soil conservation and Natural Resource Conservation Service officials on June 25.
Commissioner J.C. Tellefson said the decision came as the county is looking at a nearly 20-percent decrease in carryover figures and the state of Kansas is facing a nearly $130 million revenue shortfall, making the amount of money the county can count on even smaller.
“The budget numbers are just nasty,” Tellefson said.
