Leavenworth, Kan. -

A rural Leavenworth man was taken to the hospital following a three-vehicle crash Tuesday at Seventh Street and Metropolitan Avenue, according to a police spokesman.

The crash was reported at 6 a.m.

A 19-year-old Platte City, Mo., man had been traveling west on Metropolitan Avenue when he attempted to turn left to head south on Seventh Street. He failed to yield to an eastbound 1991 Honda Civic, according to Maj. Robert Smith, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.

“The two vehicles collided in the intersection,” Smith said.

The Civic was deflected into a northbound 2005 Dodge Dakota that had been stopped on Seventh Street for a traffic light, Smith said.

The driver of the Civic, a 19-year-old rural Leavenworth man, was transported by Leavenworth County EMS to Cushing Hospital. He received 10 stitches for a cut on his head, Smith said.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota, a 32-year-old Fort Leavenworth man, was not injured, Smith said.

The driver of the Explorer also was not injured. He was cited by police for failing to yield the right of way when making a left turn, Smith said.

The driver of the Civic was cited for driving with a revoked license, Smith said.
