There is a heartfelt saying that is the aspiration of a growing foundation: “When we hear of the loss of another precious baby, there are no words to be found — only tears.”
Those words are tied into The TEARS Foundation.
With the month of October being recognized as “National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month,” a Lansing couple believes it seems fitting to recognize a foundation that not only deals with the awareness of infancy death, but the emotional and financial support needed.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention findings in 2006, the number of infant deaths for children younger than 1 year old was 28,527 in the United States. This suggests that there are six deaths for every 1,000 births. These numbers indicate that many people are affected by the loss of a child who is younger than 1 year old.
The tragedy of losing an infant can consume and overwhelm a parent. The TEARS Foundation helps parents deal with the death of a child.
Alesha and Max Pfrimmer of Lansing experienced the loss of a child. In March, she and her husband lost their baby boy five months into the pregnancy.
“It was a normal pregnancy — he was healthy and active,” she said. “One day, I noticed the stillness. I went to the doctor and the silence of the room told us the news.”
