Three people were taken to the hospital after a dune buggy crashed into a utility pole Friday night in central Leavenworth County, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
The crash was reported at 9:01 p.m. Friday in the area of 215th Street and Stranger Road.
Derrick A. Jordan, 28, rural Leavenworth, reportedly was driving the vehicle south on 215th Street at a high rate of speed. He attempted to turn east onto Stranger Road, according to the report.
The brakes apparently locked up during the turn. The vehicle slid across the roadway and struck a utility pole, according to the report.
Jordan and one of his passengers, Curtis D. Tate, 39, Atchison, were transported by Leavenworth County EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., according to the report.
The other passenger, Janice M. Tate, 38, Atchison, was flown by LifeNet helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., according to the report.
