A Tonganoxie man was taken to the hospital after his car went airborne Monday morning on U.S. 24-40, according to a report from the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported at 10:02 a.m. Monday about three miles east of Tonganoxie.
Robert W. Fuller Jr., 56, was driving east on U.S. 24-40. He apparently attempted to change lanes and lost control of the vehicle. The car slid toward the median, according to the report.
The vehicle went airborne after it struck a guardrail. The car overturned at least once while in the air, throwing debris onto the roadway, according to the report.
The vehicle came to rest on its driver’s side, blocking the eastbound lanes of the highway.
Fuller had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and Leavenworth County EMS personnel. He was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., for injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, according to the report.
It’s not clear from the report what type of vehicle Fuller had been driving. The car was considered a total loss.
