The Lansing Board of Education heard some good news during its meeting Monday as the results of the Kansas State Department of Education’s annual Report Card were announced.
Dan Wessel, the district’s curriculum and technology director, said the results from the state offices on student assessment tests indicate that all of the district’s buildings met adequate yearly progress for the year. In addition, he said groups at all of the schools also achieved the standard of excellence in several different subjects.
“That’s a very good thing as we’re headed to 2014,” Wessel said.
There are some students who still need some help to meet the criteria, but as 2014 approaches, he said the district is moving in the right direction.
That year will be the benchmark for American schools under the No Child Left Behind Act, when every student is expected to meet academic proficiency standards set by each state for their grade level.
On the line are federal funds for the schools in the state, with standards getting “steeper” leading up to 2014, Wessel said.
