In the past, people looking for help in searching for a job had to travel to an office on Limit Street.

Now, however, residents in northern Leavenworth can find assistance closer to home.

Each Monday, volunteer Janette Holdeman operates a Workforce Partnership satellite office at Catholic Community Services, 716 N. Fifth St.

Holdeman said she helps people with searching for jobs and writing résumés and cover letters.

“We have access online to KANSASWORKS.com,” she said, referring to a Web site available for job seekers and employers.

Holdeman said people still have to visit the office at 515 Limit St. for other employment services.

Holdeman said she operates the satellite Workforce Partnership program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Monday. She said people wanting assistance do not need to make an appointment before stopping by. She said the satellite office will not be open Labor Day.

Holdeman said she has been offering the service since June 2 and has helped about 15 people.

She said the Workforce Partnership, which serves Leavenworth, Wyandotte and Johnson counties, has a similar pilot program in Johnson County.

She said Gloria Owens, director of Catholic Community Services, sought help from local churches to find someone interested in volunteering for the Workforce Partnership satellite program.

Holdeman said she learned about the program through the First United Methodist Church.

She received four hours of training before she began operating the satellite office.
