Animals made of macaroni it’s not.

The hallways at Lansing Elementary School are currently filled with bright colors, small-scale construction paper communities, decorated skeletons and giant painted fish hanging from the ceiling.

They’re all part of the school’s first annual art show, which art educators Ralph Trites and Cathy Smith said includes somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 pieces from students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Principal Shane Foust said about 500 people walked through the decorated halls during the opening, partially because of the school’s partnership with the Parent Teacher Association for the event, whose talent show was also at the school that night.

It’s something that Smith, who has taught for 21 years, said she and Trites, who has taught for 22 years, have both thought about previously.

“We’ve always wanted to do an art show,” Trites said.
