An old railroad boxcar became the focus of a discussion Tuesday night at a meeting of the Leavenworth City Commission.

The 1870s boxcar, which is located in front of the First City Museum, recently was cited as a violation of a city code related to accessory buildings.

Del Sanders, president of the association that operates the museum, provided information about the boxcar which is under restoration.

Mayor Pro Tem Mark Preisinger said 99 percent of people who are not members of the Leavenworth Historical Museum Association probably didn’t realize the structure was a boxcar.

“I always thought it was a shed too,” he said.
