Primary elections set for Tuesday

About 700 ballots have been mailed to Leavenworth County residents for Tuesday’s Primary Election.

As of Friday morning, the county clerk’s office also had received 291 advanced votes for the primary.

Satellite advanced voting took place for the first time in Leavenworth County this year. The Tonganoxie satellite voting location received 40 votes, while 39 votes were cast at the Basehor satellite location.

Advanced voting started on July 16 and will close at noon today in the county clerk’s office in the Leavenworth County Courthouse, 300 Walnut St.

Republicans have a closed primary, which means voters must be registered with the Republican party to receive a ballot. Unaffiliated voters must be affiliated as Democrat or Republican on election day.

For the U.S. Senate, Pat Roberts of Dodge City will run unopposed on the Republican ticket. Lee Jones of Overland Park and Jim Slattery will face each other on the Democratic ticket for U.S. Senate.

For the U.S. House of Representatives Second District, Lynn Jenkins of Topeka and Jim Ryun of Lawrence will face each other on the Republican ticket. Nancy Boyda of Topeka will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for the U.S. House of Representatives Second District.

Roger C. Pine of Lawrence will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for Third District state senator. Tom Holland of Baldwin City also will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for Third District state senator.

For Fifth District state senator, Steve Fitzgerald of Leavenworth will run unopposed on the Republican ticket. Mark Gilstrap and Kelly Kultala, both of Kansas City, Kan., will face off on the Democratic ticket for Fifth District state senator.

Owen Donohoe of Shawnee will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for 39th District state representative. Joe Novak of Shawnee also will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for 39th District state representative.

Laura Janas Gasbarre and Charlie Gregor, both of Leavenworth, will face each other on the Republican ticket for 40th District state representative. Melanie Sanders Meier of Leavenworth and Don Navinsky of Easton will face each other on the Democratic ticket for 40th District state representative.

Jana Taylor Goodman of Leavenworth will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for 41st District state representative. Marti Crow, also of Leavenworth, will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for 41st District state representative.

For the 42nd District state representative, Ted Ingerson and Connie O’Brien, both of Tonganoxie, will face each other on the Republican ticket. Timothy Moran of Lansing will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for 42nd District state representative.

Clyde D. Graeber, a Leavenworth Republican, will run unopposed for Second District County Commissioner.

The Republican ticket for Third District County Commissioner has seven contenders. John E. Flower of Bonner Springs, Francis L. Hurla of Tonganoxie, Tony Klamm of Bonner Springs, William “Bill” Merkel of Lawrence, Bev Oroke of Tonganoxie, Dave Taylor of Tonganoxie and Marvin Torneden of Linwood all will face each other in the primary election.

Pete Henderson of Basehor will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for Third District County Commissioner.

Janet Klasinski, a Leavenworth Republican, will run unopposed for county clerk.

Janice A. Young, a Leavenworth Republican, will run unopposed for county treasurer.

Stacy R. Driscoll, a Leavenworth Democrat, will run unopposed for register of deeds.

Debra “Deb” Snider of Lansing and Todd Thompson of Leavenworth will face each other on the Republican ticket for county attorney. Frank E. Kohl, a Lansing Democrat, will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for county attorney.  

James V. Dyson Sr. of Leavenworth will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for sheriff. Dave Zoellner of Leavenworth also will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for sheriff.

Jane Turner, a Leavenworth Republican, will run unopposed for Alexandria Township trustee. Richard Parker, an Easton Democrat, will run unopposed for Alexandria Township treasurer.

Larry “Lance” Kiehl, an Easton Republican, will run unopposed for Easton Township trustee. James Herken and Gary Stafford, both Easton Republicans, will face each other for Easton Township treasurer.

Mark A. Linville, a Bonner Springs Republican, will run unopposed for Fairmount Township trustee. George Racki, a Basehor Democrat, will run unopposed for Fairmount Township treasurer.

Margaret A. Bardoff, an Easton Democrat, will run unopposed for Kickapoo Township trustee. Mike Lingenfelser, a Leavenworth Democrat, will run unopposed for Kickapoo Township treasurer.

Mellissa Shepherd, a Tonganoxie Republican, will run unopposed for Reno Township trustee. Ann Merkel, a Lawrence Republican, will run unopposed for Reno Township treasurer.

Kim Miller-Tallman of Bonner Springs will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for Sherman Township trustee. Jimmy R. Elder and Kristi L. Johnson, both Linwood Republicans, will face each other for Sherman Township treasurer. Stuart W. Sweeney of Linwood will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for Sherman Township trustee.

Carol Floyd of Linwood will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for Sherman Township treasurer.

George Lingenfelser of Tonganoxie will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for Stranger Township trustee. Lyle B. Fisher of Tonganoxie will run unopposed on the Republican ticket for Stranger Township treasurer.

Jerry Willburn of Tonganoxie will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for Stranger Township trustee.

Robert M. “Marty” Trieb of Tonganoxie will run unopposed on the Democratic ticket for Stranger Township treasurer.

Steven LaForge, a Tonganoxie Republican, will run unopposed for Tonganoxie Township trustee.

Richard D. Harris, also a Tonganoxie Republican, will run unopposed for Tonganoxie Township treasurer.
