A Leavenworth man has been charged through the Kansas Attorney General’s Office for allegations of the sexual abuse of children.
Roger Lee Nichols, 33, is charged with one count of rape, one count of aggravated criminal sodomy, and two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Each charge involves a child under the age of 14, according to a news release from the Attorney General’s Office.
The crimes are alleged to have occurred between August 2006 and December 2009, said Gavin Young, spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office.
Nichols was arrested Tuesday in Leavenworth.
The Attorney General’s Office will be handling the case at the request of Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.
Thompson said a relative of the victims is associated with his office.
“In an effort to avoid the appearance of impropriety, we asked a neutral prosecutors office, the Attorney General’s Office, to review this matter and proceed as fit,” he said in a statement.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Andrew Beauch.
