Arlen Flanagan said he was suspicious when his wife received a survey in the mail last week.

“When she looked at it, she though it might be the census, but it looked strange,” he said.

Flanagan said the unsolicited survey, which is titled “Personal Interest Survey 2010,” arrived in the mail Friday, a couple of days after he had a received an advance letter about this year’s U.S. census
.
Flanagan said he worries other people who receive the survey may assume it is the census form and feel they have to fill it out.

But the 26-page survey is much longer than the 10-question census form. And Flanagan said the survey asks for a lot of financial information.

“Coming the week of the census, I think that’s a little tricky, shady,” he said.
